A Typical Day Mastering the Night Sky

After a hearty lunch, the group sets out to scout ideal locations for the night's astrophotography session, ensuring the best vantage points for capturing celestial wonders. Evenings are dedicated to capturing the night sky under expert guidance, with instructors providing real-time tips and feedback. The night concludes, ensuring everyone has the best chance to capture stunning images of the starry sky. This workshop is not just about photography; it's an opportunity to immerse yourself in the beauty of Acadia National Park and deepen your astrophotography skills in a supportive environment.

Prerequisites: Participants should have a basic understanding of photography fundamentals and be comfortable with manual camera settings.

The Details

  • 4 nights of Milky Way photography instruction from sunset to 3:00 am

    What you’ll need:

    a national park pass valid through the duration of the workshop
    sturdy hiking boots or shoes
    the ability to navigate uneven and sometimes slippery terrain in low-lighting conditions
    DSLR or mirrorless camera, wide-angle lens with an aperture of f/2.8 or greater, sturdy tripod, external intervalometer, multiple memory cards, two or more batteries, and hand warmers
    flashlight or headlamp and spare batteries
    smartphone with the Photopills app installed
